MCEE uses is an adaptation of “Mad Money City,” a 2½-hour hands-on simulation giving Missouri youth a taste of the real world—complete with occupation, salary, spouse, student loan debt, credit card debt, and medical insurance payments.
Appropriate for Middle through High school students (grades 6-12), participants take on the responsibilities of the adult role they soon will play in a simulated “Mad City.”
Given jobs, income, a family, and debt; the challenge is for students to select housing, transportation, food, household necessities, clothing, day care, and other wants and needs while building and operating inside a budget.
“Mad City” allows participating students to make mistakes—and suffer the consequences of their decisions—in a realistic, but safe, environment.
Each simulation provides students with realistic examples highlighting the connection between the decisions that they make and the economic consequences of those decisions, with particular emphasis placed on the link between post-secondary education and life-long earning potential.
